Радость моя! Отчаяние, по учению Иоанна Лествичника, рождается или от сознания множество грехов, когда душа множеством язв покрытая, от невыносимой их боли погружается во глубину отчаяния, или от гордости и надмения. Когда кто почитает себя незаслуженным того греха, в который впал.
Первого рода отчаяния, влечет человека во все пороки без разбора, а при отчаянии второго рода, человек держится еще своего подвига, что несовместимо разуму.
Первое, врачуется воздержанием и благою надеждою, а второе - смирением и не осуждением ближнего.
Человекоубийца-дьявол старается привести нас в отчаяние, но Господь печется о нашем спасении.
