Св. Иоанна Кронштадского называли всероссийским пастырем – так высок был его авторитет в народе. Он родился в Архангельской губ., в бедной семье сельского дьячка в 1829 г. По окончании Санкт-Петербургской Духовной Академии женился и принял сан. Получил назначение в Кронштадт и быстро стал там известен как отзывчивый и горящий верой пастырь. Постепенно к рассказам о его помощи беднякам прибавились истории о чудесных исцелениях, совершенных по молитвам о. Иоанна. Его яркие и искренние проповеди привлекали прихожан. Известность о. Иоанна распространилась на всю Россию. Он много помогал храмам и монастырям, но больше всего прославился организацией столовых, лечебниц и мастерских для бедняков. О. Иоанн был популяризатором движения трезвенников, т.к. видел в пьянстве одну из основных бед простого люда. В общественно-политической жизни стал известен благодаря полемике с антицерковными статьями Льва Толстого. Он активно осудил прошедшие в Кишиневе и Одессе погромы. Дневник о. St. John of Kronstadt was called the All-Russian Shepherd - so high was his authority among the people. He was born in Arkhangelsk Province, in a poor family of a rural deacon in 1829. After graduating from the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, he married and took a dignity. Got an appointment in Kronstadt and quickly became known there as a sympathetic and faith-burning shepherd. Gradually, stories of his help to the poor were added to the stories of miraculous healings performed through the prayers of Fr. John. His vivid and sincere sermons attracted parishioners. Fame of Fr. John spread to all of Russia. He helped many temples and monasteries, but most of all he was famous for organizing canteens, clinics and workshops for the poor. Father John was a popularizer of the movement of teetotalers. saw in drunkenness one of the main misfortunes of ordinary people. In public and political life he became known for his controversy with the anti-church articles of Leo Tolstoy. He actively condemned the pogroms that took place in Chisinau and Odessa. Diary of Fr.
