Растёт на кургане за Доном-рекой
Суровый цветок бессмертник.
Как будто из меди его лепестки,
И стебель свинцового цвета.
Стоит на кургане у самой реки
Цветок не сгибаемый ветром.
С ним рядом на гребне кургана
Лежит казак молодой, белозубый,
И кровь его тёплою струйкой
Бежит со лба на холодные губы.
Хотел ухватиться за сизый ковыль
Казак перед самою смертью,
Да всё было смято, развеяно в пыль.
Один лишь остался бессмертник.
С ним рядом казак на полоске земли
С разбитым лежит пулемётом.
И он не ушёл, и они не ушли,
Солдаты фашистской пехоты.
Чтоб смерть мог казак молодой пережить
И в памяти вечной был светел,
Остался бессмертник его сторожить,
Суровой победы свидетель.
