Земных богов я не хвалил
И силе в гордости свободной
Кадилом лести не кадил.
Свободу лишь учася славить,
Стихами жертвуя лишь ей,
Я не рожден царей забавить
Стыдливой Музою моей.
Но, признаюсь, под Геликоном,
Где Касталийский ток шумел,
Я, вдохновенный Аполлоном,
Елисавету втайне пел.
Небесного земной свидетель,
Воспламененною душой
Я пел на троне добродетель
С ее приветною красой.
Любовь и тайная Свобода
Внушали сердцу гимн простой,
И неподкупный голос мой
Был эхо русского народа.

I did not praise earthly gods
And the power in the pride of free
Cadilla of flattery is not a cadet.
Freedom only learning to praise,
Sacrificing poetry only to her,
I'm not born to amuse kings
A bashful muza.
But, I admit, under Helicon,
Where the Castalian current was noisy
I, inspired by Apollo,
Elisaveta secretly sang.
Heavenly earthly witness,
Inflaimed soul
I sang virtue on the throne
With her greeting beauty.
