Святитель Иларион, митрополит Киевский и всея Руси, жил в эпоху великого князя Ярослава Мудрого († 1054 г.), сына святого равноапостольного Владимира. В историю Русской Церкви он вошел как первый из ее русских предстателей, представленных на митрополию Собором русских епископов.
