Для первых властителей завиден мой жребий,
И боги не так горды.
Столпами из мрамора в пылающем небе
Укрепились мои сады.
Там рощи с цистернами для розовой влаги,
Голубые нежные мхи,
Рабы, и танцовщицы, и мудрые маги,
Короли четырех стихий.
Все манит и радует, все ясно и близко,
Все таит восторг тишины,
Но каждой полночью так страшно и низко
Наклоняется лик луны.
И в сумрачном ужасе от лунного взляда,
От цепких лунных сетей,
Мне хочется броситься из этого сада
С высоты семисот локтей.

And the gods are not so proud.
Pillars of marble in a blazing sky
My gardens have been strengthened.
There are groves with cisterns for pink moisture,
Blue tender mosses
Slaves and dancers and wise magicians
Kings of the four elements.
Everything attracts and pleases, everything is clear and close,
Everything conceals the delight of silence
But every midnight is so scary and low
The face of the moon tilts.
And in gloomy horror from the moon gaze,
From tenacious lunar nets
I feel like throwing myself out of this garden
From a height of seven hundred cubits.
