19 Фарисеи же говорили между собою: видите ли, что не успеваете ничего? весь мир идет за Ним.
20 Из пришедших на поклонение в праздник были некоторые Еллины.
21 Они подошли к Филиппу, который был из Вифсаиды Галилейской, и просили его, говоря: господин! нам хочется видеть Иисуса.
22 Филипп идет и говорит о том Андрею; и потом Андрей и Филипп сказывают о том Иисусу.
23 Иисус же сказал им в ответ: пришел час прославиться Сыну Человеческому.
24 Истинно, истинно говорю вам: если пшеничное зерно, пав в землю, не умрет, то останется одно; а если умрет, то принесет много плода.
25 Любящий душу свою погубит ее; а ненавидящий душу свою в мире сем сохранит ее в жизнь вечную.
26 Кто Мне служит, Мне да последует; и где Я, там и слуга Мой будет. И кто Мне служит, того почтит Отец Мой.
27 Душа Моя теперь возмутилась; и что Мне сказать? Отче! избавь Меня от часа сего! Но на сей час Я и пришел.

32 И когда Я вознесен буду от земли, всех привлеку к Себе.
33 Сие говорил Он, давая разуметь, какою смертью Он умрет.
34 Народ отвечал Ему: мы слышали из закона, что Христос пребывает вовек; как же Ты говоришь, что должно вознесену быть Сыну Человеческому? кто Этот Сын Человеческий?
35 Тогда Иисус сказал им: еще на малое время свет есть с вами; ходите, пока есть свет, чтобы не объяла вас тьма: а ходящий во тьме не знает, куда идет.
36 Доколе свет с вами, веруйте в свет, да будете сынами света. Сказав это, Иисус отошел и скрылся от них.

В сегодняшнем Евангельском отрывке мы слышим о том, как пришедшие на праздник иноземцы желают увидеть Иисуса Христа. В этом нет ничего удивительного, так как Его имя стало известно за пределами Галилеи и Израиля и многие приходящие могли искать встречи с Ним. Когда апостолы говорят об этом Христу мы даже слышим, что Спаситель отвечает «пришел час прославиться Сыну Человеческому». Казалось бы вполне очевидно, что слово «прославиться» означает Его согласие встретиться с пришедшими и стать еще более известным. Но, судя по всему, для Христа его слова значат нечто совершенно иное. Разговор про обычную славу и известность – лишь повод, чтобы заговорить о славе в истинном смысле слова. Причем эту славу, по своему и в свою меру должен разделить с ним всякий, кто хочет называться Его учеником.
Слава Его – есть крестная смерть, которую Он принимает, чтобы спасти человека от греха, проклятия и смерти. Быть учеником Христовым – значит нести свой крест и идти на свою Голгофу.
Но, что это значит в нашей жизни? Что именно каждый из нас должен делать?
Ответ очень прост: исполнять заповеди Христовы, из которых главные любовь к Богу и любовь к ближнему. Не будучи эгоистической и потребительской, такая любовь к Богу и человеку, оказывается жертвенной и отдающей. В мире, который по словам Спасителя «во зле лежит» такая любовь оказывается не просто неуместной, она противоречит всему его существу. Именно поэтому Господь говорит: «Любящий душу свою погубит ее; а ненавидящий душу свою в мире сем сохранит ее в жизнь вечную». Традиционно под душой в этой фразе подразумевается жизнь. Человек, который любит свою жизнь, и «живет ради себя» погубит свою жизнь для вечности. Причем погубит не потому что не выполнял каких-то положенных действий, а потому что не научился никого любить и значит не стал учеником Христовым. Напротив, тот, для кого в жизни есть нечто более важное, чем его собственные интересы, кто научился жить не только для себя… Тот научился быть учеником, тот сделал всю свою жизнь богослужением. Именно о таком человеке и говорит Христос: «Кто Мне служит, Мне да последует; и где Я, там и слуга Мой будет».
Может быть, призыв к этой жертвенности покажется странным, но христианство именно таково. Если нам трудно идти за Христом, это не значит, что идти за ним не нужно. Призыв «ходить во свете», обращенный к собеседникам Христа, обращен к каждому из нас. Будем же верить во свет, чтобы и нам стать сынами Света.

19 The Pharisees said to one another, Do you see that you do not have time? the whole world follows Him.
20 Of those who came to worship on the feast, there were some Greeks.
21 And they approached Philip, who was of Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, saying, Lord, we want to see Jesus.
22 Philip goes and talks about Andrei; and then Andrew and Philip talk about Jesus.
23 And Jesus answered and said unto them, The hour is come that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a grain of wheat falls into the ground and does not die, then it remains alone; and if it dies, it will bear much fruit.
25 He that loveth his life shall destroy it. And he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will also be. And whosoever serves me, the Father will honor him.
27 My soul is now troubled; and what shall I say? Father! Save me from this hour! But for this hour I came.
28 Father's Day! Glorify thy name. Then a voice came from heaven: and I glorified and yet glorified.
29 The people who stood and heard that, said: it is thunder; and others said: The angel spoke to Him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice was not for me, but for the people.
31 Now is the judgment of this world; Now the prince of this world is cast out.
32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to myself.
33 These things He spoke, giving to understand, by what death He would die.
34 And the people answered him: We heard from the law that Christ abideth for ever; How do you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?
35 Then Jesus said to them, "Yet for a little while, the light is with you; go, while there is light, lest darkness come upon you: but he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.
36 While there is light with you, believe in the light, that you may be sons of light. Having said this, Jesus departed and disappeared from them.

In today's Gospel passage, we hear about how foreigners who come to the feast wish to see Jesus Christ. This is not surprising, since His name became known outside of Galilee and Israel and many coming could search for meetings with Him. When the apostles speak of this to Christ, we even hear that the Savior responds, "The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified." It would seem quite obvious that the word "glory" means His consent to meet with the comers and become even more famous. But, apparently, for Christ his words mean something completely different. Talking about ordinary fame and fame is just an excuse to talk about fame in the true sense of the word. And this glory, in its own way and in its measure, must be shared with him by anyone who wants to be called his disciple.
His glory is the death of the cross, which He takes to save man from sin, curses and death. To be a disciple of Christ means to bear your cross and go to your Calvary.
But, what does this mean in our lives? What exactly should each of us do?
The answer is very simple: to fulfill the commandments of Christ, of which the main love for God and love for one's neighbor. Not being egoistic and consumer, this kind of love for God and man turns out to be sacrificial and giving. In a world that, according to the Savior, "lies in evil", such love is not just inappropriate, it contradicts the whole of its being. That is why the Lord says: "He who loves his life will destroy it; And he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. " Traditionally, the soul in this phrase means life. A person who loves his life, and "lives for himself" will ruin his life for eternity. Moreover, he will not be killed because he did not perform some prescribed actions, but because he did not learn to love anyone and therefore did not become a disciple of Christ. On the contrary, the one for whom there is something more important in life than his own interests, who learned to live not only for himself ... He learned to be a disciple, he made his whole life a divine service. It is about such a man that Christ says: "If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will also be. "
Perhaps, the call to this sacrifice seems strange, but Christianity is just like that. If it is difficult for us to follow Christ, this does not mean that we do not need to go after him. The call to "walk in the light", addressed to the interlocutors of Christ, is addressed to each of us. Let us believe in the light, so that we too may become sons of Light.
