День короткий осенний скатился пылающим шаром,
Укрываясь от мира в бескрайних багряных лесах.
Пёс лохматый опять, примостившись на коврике старом,
В полудрёме мечтал о заботливых нежных руках.
На собачьем веку не видал он больнее потери,
Чем отобранный мяч и шутливое милое: "Кыш!"
И тихонько скулил от тоски под закрытою дверью
Тёплой спальни хозяйской, где вдруг появился малыш.
Старый пёс заболел. Покидали последние силы.
И в собачьей душе вдруг пошли проливные дожди.
Показалось ему, что хозяйка его разлюбила,
Прижимая теперь только свёрток орущий к груди.
У собачьих богов было глупо молить о спасенье.
Он тихонько привстал, невзирая на холод и мрак.
И шагнул за порог, исчезая в ненастье осеннем,
Уходя за звездой Одиноких Забытых Собак.
