Слово «узундара» переводится с азербайджанского как «Длинное ущелье». Танец появился на одной из азербайджанских свадеб много лет тому назад. Тогда ещё не было автомобилей, невесту в связи с дальней дорогой провожали пешком по длинному ущелью (отсюда и название танца) между Агдамом (Нагорный Карабах) и селом Гёйтепе (азерб. Göytəpə - «Зелёный холм») в Карабахе. За это время музыканты начали играть лиричную музыку, сопровождавшую невесту. С этих пор когда хотят танцевать под эту музыку говорят «сыграйте пожалуйста ту музыку, которую играли в том длинном ущелье».
The word “Uzundara” is translated from Azerbaijani as “Long Gorge”. The dance appeared at one of the Azerbaijani weddings many years ago. There were no cars yet, the bride was escorted on foot along the long gorge (hence the name of the dance) between Agdam (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the village of Goytepe (azerb. Göytəpə - "Green Hill") in Karabakh. During this time, the musicians began to play lyric music that accompanied the bride.
