Ровно 33 года ловил старик неводом рыбу и однажды в сети ему попалась золотая рыбка. Молвила она человеческим голосом, что выполнит любое его желание, если он ее отпустит. Пожалел старик рыбку, да и отпустил в синее море не попросив нечего взамен.
Старуха узнав про это, забранила старика и отправила его взять выкуп с рыбки. Так появилось у нее новое корыто, но и этого ей было мало…
