Только эта книга смогла бы открыть глаза невинной жертве и расстроить свадьбу. Для того чтобы добыть улику, Шерлоку Холмсу пришлось даже прибегнуть к краже со взломом.

Colonel James Deimry addresses Sherlock Holmes with a request to prevent the marriage of a well-known fraudster, Baron Gruner, and Violetta de Merville, the daughter of General de Merville. The Baron, who killed his wife and was involved in foul scandals, collected women like butterflies, boasted of his "collection", and wrote down all his "exploits" in a book. Only this book could open the eyes of an innocent victim and upset the wedding. In order to obtain evidence, Sherlock Holmes had even resorted to burglary.
