Название Аргентина является производным от латинского слова argentum (аргентум, «серебро»), которое в свою очередь происходит от греческого ἀργήντος (аргентос), более раннее ἀργήεις (аржиз), что означало «белый», «сияющий»[19]. Αργεντινός (аргентинос) — греческое прилагательное, означавшее «серебристый»[20]. Первое использование названия Аргентина может быть отнесено к поэме 1602 года «Аргентина и покорение Рио де ла Плата» (исп. La Argentina y conquista del Río de la Plata) Мартина дель Барко Сентенера.
The name Argentina is derived from the Latin word argentum (argentum, “silver”), which in turn comes from the Greek ἀργήντος (argentos), earlier ἀργήεις (arziz), which meant “white”, “shining” [19]. Αργεντινός (Argentinos) is a Greek adjective meaning “silver” [20]. The first use of the name Argentina can be attributed to the 1602 poem “Argentina and the Conquest of Rio de la Plata” (Spanish: La Argentina y conquista del Río de la Plata) by Martin del Barco Centenera.
