Подольские курсанты — сводные отряды, оборонявшие вместе с 43-й армией юго-западные подступы к Москве в октябре 1941 года. В боях на Ильинском фронте подольские курсанты уничтожили около 5 тысяч немецких солдат и офицеров и подбили (или вывели из строя) около 100 танков, при этом потеряли около 2 500 человек.
В 1988 году А.Н.Пахмутовой была написана "Прелюдия Памяти Подольских курсантов", которая была включена в фильм "Битва за Москву". Памятью курсантам подольских училищ стали также песня А.Н.Пахмутовой и Н.Н.Добронравова "Ты моя надежда, ты моя отрада" и книга С.Е.Михеенкова "Примкнуть штыки".
