Мой друг-художник выбросил палитру
И ухнулся в нетворческий запой.
Вчера какой-то шýшер, допиваючи поллитру,
Икнул: "Чаво малюешь тута?... Дескать, не Крамской!"
Что скажешь в утешение живому?
Он даже не состарился пока...
Слова - как тонкий пластырь по разрезу ножевому!
И всё сильней становится дрожание виска...
Как нравится нам буйствовать по мёртвым,
Не видя тех, кто рядом и живой!
Поэты и художники - когорта обречённых
Ловить дожди эпохи непокрытой головой.
Волшебники! Но мир не верит в чудо,
За вами зависть бродит по пятам!
Последними целуют, как предписано, Иуды.
И руки жмут уверенно. И режут провода.
Достало до костей ворчанье это:
Мол - нет теперь Жуковских и Крамских...
Вы только не бросайте жить, художники-поэты!
Пишите, чтоб светил маяк для будущих - других!

Yesterday some kind of shysher, finishing half a liter,
Hiccuped: "Do you paint mulberries? ... Say, not Kramskoy!"
