Некая юная девица, Мэри Сесили Роджерс, была убита в окрестностях Нью-Йорка осенью 1842 года. «Тайна Мари Роже» писалась вдали от места преступления, и всё «расследование» дела было предпринято на основе лишь минимальных газетных данных. Тем не менее, данные в разное время спустя после публикации рассказа полностью подтвердили не только общие выводы, но и все предположительные подробности!
Рассказ также называется продолжением «Убийств на улице Морг», хотя с теми убийствами это новое уже не связано, но расследует их всё тот же «Шерлок Холмс». Но гораздо интересней то, что, как отмечено чуть выше в аннотации, рассказ – прямая иллюстрация не только литературного, но и криминалистического таланта автора, что обычно принято приписывать только Артуру Конан Дойлю.

A certain young girl, Mary Cecily Rogers, was killed in the vicinity of New York in the fall of 1842. The Secret of Marie Roger was written away from the scene of the crime, and the entire “investigation” of the case was undertaken on the basis of only minimal newspaper data. Nevertheless, the data at different times after the publication of the story fully confirmed not only the general conclusions, but also all the alleged details!
The story is also called the continuation of “Murders on Morgue Street”, although this new one is no longer connected with those murders, but the same “Sherlock Holmes” is investigating them. But it’s much more interesting that, as noted a little higher in the annotation, the story is a direct illustration of not only the literary, but also the forensic talent of the author, which is usually customary to attribute only to Arthur Conan Doyle.
