Настоящий, хороший композитор, сочиняя музыку, отдает ей все свои душевные силы, все свое сердце, весь свой ум. Всего себя отдает искусству и настоящий, хороший исполнитель. И слушатель, если он хочет по-настоящему услышать музыку, тоже должен отдать ей все силы своей души, сердца и ума.
Подлинно талантливый музыкант, исполняющий бетховенскую музыку, как бы перевоплощается в этот момент в Бетховена. Если он не сживется с этой музыкой так, словно сам создавал ее, ему трудно будет увлечь ею своих слушателей. Но и каждый хороший слушатель, в том числе каждый из вас, тоже сможет ощутить в себе частичку Бетховена, если будет вместе с исполнителем жить одной жизнью с этой великой музыкой. И, быть может, одно из самых чудесных свойств музыки, как и всякого искусства, состоит в том, что чем больше душевных сил мы ей отдаем, тем больше новых сил в ней черпаем. А невнимательное, незаинтересованное слушание музыки, точно так же как невнимательное, незаинтересованное чтение книг или рассматривание картин, только утомляет нас, отбирает наши силы, а взамен ровно ничего не дает, разве что вызывает пагубное заблуждение, будто бы скучно все это, непонятно…
