Преподобный Косма Яхромской, когда был отроком, служил у одного боярина и во время продолжительной болезни своего господина утешал его чтением книг. Как-то, переезжая из города в город, они остановились на реке Яхроме, в 40 верстах от Владимира, и больной уснул. Внезапно Косма увидел яркий свет и услышал голос, повелевавший быть ему иноком и устроить монастырь. Свет исходил от иконы Пресвятой Богородицы, явившейся на дереве. Его больной господин тогда же получил от иконы исцеление, а Косма с чудотворной иконой отравился в Киев в Печерскую лавру, где ему показали подлинное изображение чудотворной иконы (Успения Божией Матери, так как Яхромская икона изображает Успение Богоматери). В Печерском монастыре он был пострижен и возрос для самостоятельных духовных подвигов. По тайному внушению Божию преподобный Косма взял с собой чудотворную икону и удалился на берег Яхромы в то место, где обрел этот образ, и при пособии добрых христиан построил храм в честь Успения Пресвятой Богородицы, в котором поставил Яхромскую икону. К преподобному стала собираться братия, и образовался монастырь. Преподобный Косма был избран игуменом. Слава об иноческих подвигах святого доходила в те времена даже до великого князя. Преподобный Косма скончался в глубокой старости 18 февраля 1492 г. и был погребен в основанной им обители. Память ему совершается 18 февраля/2 марта и 14/27 октября, в день празднования Божией Матери ради Ее иконы Яхромской.

His sick master then received healing from the icon, and Cosma with the miraculous icon went to Kiev in the Pechersk Lavra, where he was shown a genuine image of the miraculous icon (Assumption of the Mother of God, since the Yakhrom icon depicts the Assumption of the Mother of God). In the Pechersky monastery he was tonsured and increased for independent spiritual exploits. According to the secret suggestion of God, the Monk Cosmas took a miraculous icon with him and retired to the bank of Yakhroma to the place where he acquired this image, and with the help of good Christians built a church in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in which he placed the Yakhrom icon. Brothers began to gather at the monk, and a monastery was formed. Rev. Cosmas was elected abbot. The glory of the monastic deeds of the saint reached in those days even the Grand Duke. Rev. Cosmas died in old age on February 18, 1492 and was buried in the monastery founded by him. His memory takes place on February 18 / March 2 and October 14/27, on the day of the celebration of the Mother of God for the sake of Her icon of Yakhromskaya.
