Праздник Крещения имеет два названия: «Богоявление» и «Крещение Господа Бога и Спаса нашего Иисуса Христа». На первом месте − Богоявление, смысл которого со временем стал пониматься как раскрытие миру тайны Триединого Бога в момент Крещения Иисуса Христа. Свое название «сочельник» этот день получил от постного блюда сочива. Его готовили из пшеницы или риса, смешанных с орехами, маком и медом.
