Lurch is a fictional character created by cartoonist Charles Addams as a butler for the black comedy television Addams Family in 1964-1966. In the original television series, Larcha was played by Ted Cassidy, who came up with the now famous phrase: “You rang?” (Did you call?). When the actor’s phrase was played in slow motion bass profundo (very low bass, chesty, voluminous male voice) , the producers found it so funny that they immediately included it in their show, although Larch’s scoring was originally conceived as 'nonspeaking'.
