Пьедестал для памятника Алексею Бересту залили в сквере 353 Стрелковой дивизии, что в районе Сельмаша. Сам пятиметровый монумент стоимостью почти 2 миллиона рублей поставят 9 мая. При этом высота скульптуры составит 2.5 метра. Алексей Берест один из трех советских солдат, кто водрузил красное знамя над Рейхстагом в 45-м. После войны он жил и работал в нашем городе, здесь он похоронен. Ростовский скульптор Анатолий Скнарин изобразил Береста со знаменем в левой руке, в правой – он держит пистолет-пулемет. Чтобы добиться портретного сходства, автор памятник консультировался с дочерью героя войны - Ириной Берест, о чем он сам мне рассказал.

Мы встретились с Анатолием Скнариным накауне утром в сквере 353 Стрелковой дивизии. Скульптор приехал, чтобы посмотреть, где именно будет стоять его работа. К моменту открытия памятника сквер должен преобразиться: заменят плитку, посадят новые деревья и установят 24 светодиодных фонаря. 18 опор освещения для них уже поставили. Берест будет стоять лицом к улице Металлургической, сразу перед зданием Ростовского института защиты предпринимателя.
