Блаженный Августин - одна из самых интересных исторических личностей, которые когда-либо существовали. Августин - во всех отношениях олицетворение той переходной эпохи V столетия, когда один обветшавший мир рушится, а другой созидается на его развалинах. Он стоит на рубеже между древностью и средними веками: собирая обломки древней культуры, он вместе с тем закладывает основы средневекового, частью же и новейшего европейского миросозерцания.
