All his life he played an imitation of rock music, masterfully juggling with cliches, alternating light passage songs with complex things, some of which could not find a normal embodiment. He studied the laws by which music is composed, in order to then do the opposite and see what happens. People like him never become rock heroes because they lack seriousness in their attitude towards themselves and what they do. The whole art of Zappa is one big joke therapy. Or a slap in the face of public taste - as you like best.
