В результате освободительного похода Красной Армии и решения Народного собрания Западной Беларуси она была объединена с БССР и включена в состав СССР. В результате вхождения Западной Беларуси в состав БССР ее территория увеличилась с 125,6 до 225,6 тыс. км2, а население — с 5,6 до 10,3 млн человек. На присоединенной территории было образовано 5 областей — Барановичская, Брестская, Белостокская, Вилейская и Пинская. Воссоединение Западной Беларуси с БССР восстановило историческую справедливость в отношении разделенного государственными границами (согласно условиям Рижского мирного договора 1921 г.) белорусского народа.
