Первая аудио-запись поэмы принадлежит великому русскому актеру Василию Ивановичу Качалову, который сделал ее, скорее всего, в конце тридцатых годов, во время гастролей МХАТА в Америке. "Академического" текста поэмы не существует.
Существует и другая версия, что на тон-студии "Мелодии" в конце 40-х годов кто-то из известнейших тогда артистов (чуть ли не старик Качалов или Кторов, актер МХАТа) начитали под музыку "Луку" и "Утехи". Но их "стуканули". Матрицу "Мудищева" ухитрились спасти, и эта запись вышла на компакте уже в 90-х, а "Утехи" уничтожили. Последнее произведение осталось только на пленке, которую тоже кто-то умудрился из-под носа проверяющих стащить. Начинаются оба творения с проигрыша и "Не смею вам стихи Баркова благопристойно перевесть. Я даже имени такого не смею в свете произнесть. Александр Сергеевич Пушкин". Позже была "Фелиста", которую молва приписывает именно Кторову.
