Альбан Берг умер 23 декабря 1935 года, не успев завершить работу над своей второй оперой «Лулу». Третий акт оперы остался в виде сокращённого черновика и оркестровки примерно пятой его части. Завершить оперу взялся австрийский композитор Фридрих Церха (Friedrich Cerha): он доработал черновик до полного варианта, решая проблемы фразировки, артикуляции, динамики, правильного темпа, музыкальной орфографии и координации, и довёл до конца оркестровку. Премьера полной версии «Лулу» состоялась в 1979 году.

The Austrian composer Friedrich Cerha undertook to complete the opera: he finalized the draft to the full version, solving the problems of phrasing, articulation, dynamics, the right tempo, musical spelling and coordination, and completed the orchestration. The full version of Lulu premiered in 1979.
