With its brief presentation of the history of Israel, Paul wished to refute the allegations of his opponents, that they are true descendants of Abraham, and Jerusalem (the center of Juda Christianity and the law) is their mother.
Judakers argued that the pagans were not legal heirs. According to them, if the pagans wanted to become true followers of Christ, they must first become sons of Abraham, fulfilling a law on circumcision.
But Paul says that the opposite is. These are legitimate, like Izmail, were illegal sons of Abraham.
