В 80-ые годы в бывшем Советском Союзе группа ученых-геологов работала над проектом бурения сверхгубокой скважины. Рассказывает руководитель проекта Аззаков:
"Как коммунист, я не верю в Небеса или Библию, но как учёный, я теперь верю в ад. Не нужно говорить, что мы были действительно потрясены, сделав такое открытие.
Мы спустили в скважину микрофон для записи звука движения литосферных плит. Но вместо движения плит, мы услышали кричащий человеческий голос, в котором звучала боль. Вначале мы подумали, что звук издавался нашим собственным буровым оборудованием. Но затем, когда еще раз отрегулировали оборудование, наши наихудшие подозрения подтвердились. Крики, вопли не были криками и воплями одного человека, они были криками, воплями и стонами миллионов людей."
