Феанор велел остановиться: раны его были смертельны, и он знал, что час его близок. И, бросив последний взгляд со склонов Эред Ветрина, он узрел вдали пики Тангородрима — мощнейшей из твердынь Средиземья — и осознал в прозреньи смерти, что никогда не достанет у Нолдор силы сокрушить их; но трижды проклял он имя Моргота и оставил сыновьям завет хранить клятву и отомстить за отца. Затем он умер; но нет у него ни могилы, ни гробницы, ибо столь пламенным был его дух, что, едва он отлетел, — тело Феанора стало золой и развеялось, как дым; и подобие его никогда не появлялось в Арде, а дух не покидал чертогов Мандоса. Так закончил жизнь величайший из нолдоров, чьи дела принесли им огромную славу и гибельнейшую беду
Feanor ordered to stop: his wounds were fatal, and he knew that his hour was near. And, taking a last look from the slopes of Ered Vetrin, he saw in the distance the peaks of Tangorodrim - the most powerful of the strongholds of Middle-earth - and realized in the sight of death that he would never have the strength to crush them from the Noldor; but he cursed the name of Morgoth three times and left the covenant with his sons to keep the oath and avenge his father. Then he died; but he doesn’t have a grave or a tomb, for his spirit was so fiery that as soon as he flew away, Feanor's body became ash and scattered like smoke; and his likeness never appeared in Arda, and the spirit did not leave the halls of Mandos. Thus ended the greatest of the Noldors, whose deeds brought them great fame and utter disaster.
