МЕЧТА АРЕСТАНТА
Мне б теперь — да в село Алтая,
Где и поезд не будит тишь,
Где пословица золотая:
“Меньше знаешь — больше спишь”.
Я хоть жив, а других — искромсало...
Каково б мою горечь — да тем?
Нет!! Чтоб жизнью платить — сызначала
Нет таких философских систем!
Десять лет мне прогнить в этом склепе,
Десять зим набежит в волосах...
Мне — бродить бы сейчас по степи
И встречать восход в овсах.
Отличать бы от вяза — ясень,
От чижа и синицы — щегла,
Знать повадки леща, карася,
Знать приметы дождя, тепла.
Мне — в Алтай бы! Высоким стремленьям
Отдал дань я, и будет с меня.
Я грущу по коровьему пенью,
По оскалу улыбки коня.
Мне б — избёнку пониже. Нисколько
Не взмучая счастливую тьму,
Я б учил ребятишек, но только
Арифметике и письму.

On the grin of a horse's smile.
I used - a lower hut. Not at all
Not stirring up the happy darkness
I would teach children, but only
Arithmetic and writing.
