Согласно преданию рождение святого преподобного Ефрема было предвозвещено матери необыкновенным видением: ей снился младенец, из уст которого выросла виноградная лоза; она быстро-быстро распространилась и покрыла всю землю ветвями; на ней выросли чудные грозди; отовсюду слетались птицы и клевали ягоды, но сколько ни клевали, число ягод не уменьшалось.
И было другое видение одному святому отцу, подвизавшемуся в пустыне. Он увидел сонм ангелом, сходивших с неба и несших большой свиток, исписанный с обеих сторон. Они спрашивали друг друга: "Кто же может принять этот свиток?" И был голос с неба: "Только Ефрем, избранник Мой". И привели святого Ефрема и дали проглотить этот свиток. И совершилось дивное дело: как лоза, разросшаяся по всей земле, распространились дивные слова преподобного Ефрема.
Таким дивным словом святого преподобного Ефрема Сирина и является молитва "Господи и Владыко живота моего...".

According to legend, the birth of the holy Rev. Ephraim was foreshadowed by an unusual vision for her mother: she dreamed of a baby, from whose lips a vine grew; it spread very quickly and covered the whole earth with branches; wonderful clusters grew on it; birds flocked from everywhere and pecked berries, but no matter how much pecked, the number of berries did not decrease.
And there was another vision to one holy father who labored in the wilderness. He saw a host of angels descending from heaven and carrying a large scroll, scribbled on both sides. They asked each other: "Who can take this scroll?" And there was a voice from heaven: "Only Ephraim, my chosen one." And they brought St. Ephraim and gave it to swallow this scroll. And a marvelous work was accomplished: like a vine that grew throughout the earth, the wonderful words of St. Ephraim were spread.
