“НОЧЬ НА ЛЫ́СОЙ ГОРЕ́” — симфоническая фантазия М. П. Мусоргского, созданная в 1867 г. Программа ее достаточно полно отражена в авторских заглавиях эпизодов (исполняющихся без перерыва): 1. Сбор ведьм, их толки и сплетни; 2. Поезд Сатаны; 3. Поганая слава Сатане; 4. Шабаш. Острое ощущение фантастики, яркая картинность, а главное, сочность и выразительность музыкального языка — отличительные черты этого сочинения. Судьба фантазии оказалась сложной: при жизни композитора она не была исполнена, и автор не раз намеревался использовать ее фрагменты в оперных партитурах. Впервые “Ночь на Лысой горе” прозвучала в 1886 г. в редакции Н. А. Римского-Корсакова и под его управлением (он сократил сочинение и заново оркестровал).

The keen sense of fiction, vivid picturesqueness, and most importantly, the richness and expressiveness of the musical language are the distinguishing features of this work. The fate of fantasy turned out to be difficult: during the composer’s lifetime, it was not performed, and the author more than once intended to use its fragments in opera scores. For the first time “Night on Bald Mountain” sounded in 1886 in the editorship of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov and under his direction (he shortened the composition and re-orchestrated).
