Проходя оттуда, Иисус увидел человека, сидящего у сбора пошлин, по имени Матфея, и говорит ему: следуй за Мною. И он встал и последовал за Ним. И когда Иисус возлежал в доме, многие мытари и грешники пришли и возлегли с Ним и учениками Его. Увидев то, фарисеи сказали ученикам Его: для чего Учитель ваш ест и пьет с мытарями и грешниками? Иисус же, услышав это, сказал им: не здоровые имеют нужду во враче, но больные, пойдите, научитесь, что значит: милости хочу, а не жертвы? Ибо Я пришел призвать не праведников, но грешников к покаянию.

Passing from there, Jesus saw a man sitting at the collection of duties, named Matthew, and said to him: Follow Me. And he stood up and followed Him. And when Jesus lay in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and lay down with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples: Why does your Master eat and drink with publicans and sinners? Jesus, having heard this, said to them: not healthy people need a doctor, but sick, go learn how it means: I want mercy, not sacrifice? For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
