Казалось бы, удивительно, что в такой трудный период своей жизни Шопен создал самый светлый, безмятежный и самый танцевальный из своих вальсов. В его музыке и строении есть сходство с венскими вальсами (он и написан в Вене, очевидно, не без влияния звучавшей кругом музыки). Как и венские вальсы, он состоит из целой цепи различных вальсовых мелодий — сюиты вальсов. Но, так как Шопен обычно пишет свои вальсы в сложной трехчастной форме, черты этой формы здесь тоже присутствуют.
