Древний Патерик – знаменитое собрание изречений египетских пустынников и рассказов об их жизни, созданное во второй половине IV - первой половине V века. Paterik had a huge influence on the spiritual life of both the Orthodox East and the West, and was extremely popular in the countries of the Christian world, including in Russia. In Slavonic he was translated in the beginning of X century in Bulgaria, among the disciples of St. Cyril and Methodius, and from the XI century widely spread in Old Russian writing. In particular, it became a prototype for the creation of the Kiev Pechersk Patericon and other Russian Paterikovs.
