Почти столетие автором текста этого популярного романса считался М. П. Пойгин, на стихи которого композитор Николай Зубов в 1898-1903 годах создал семь романсов, в том числе "Не уходи, не покидай". Лишь в конце ХХ века выяснилось, что среди более чем шестидесяти романсов самого Зубова (из них десять - на собственные слова) есть романс с очень похожим названием "Не уходи, побудь со мною", созданный в 1899 году и посвященный Анастасии Вяльцевой.
