В суре говорится, что людям Писания (евреям и христианам) было известно из своих Писаний, какими качествами будет обладать последний пророк. Поэтому им надлежит уверовать в него, когда Аллах пошлет его к ним. Но когда посланник Аллаха был послан к ним, между ними возникли разногласия, и они нарушили свое обещание.
The Sura says that the people of Scripture (Jews and Christians) knew from their Scriptures what qualities the last prophet would have. Therefore, they should believe in him when Allah sends him to them. But when the Messenger of Allah was sent to them, differences arose between them, and they broke their promise.
