Ольга Семеновна, Оленька, душечка вышла замуж за Ивана Петровича, антрепренёра местного провинциального театра, где бездарные актеры ставили ужасающие пьесы. Зрители театр не жаловали, и Иван Петрович публику презирал — ведь ей нужны были лишь балаган и пошлость. Поехал он в Москву набирать новую труппу, да там и умер. Погоревала душечка и вышла замуж за управляющего лесным складом Васечку и смотрела ему в рот, повторяя его любимые слова и фразы: «Каждая вещь свой порядок имеет».
Недолго, однако, длилось ее счастье — и Васечку Господь прибрал после болезни. На горизонте появился ветеринар Володечка, поссорившийся с изменившей ему женой. И его Ольга Семеновна нежно и преданно полюбила. А потом и Володечка уехал, помирился с женой и приехал через несколько лет к Душечке с сыном. Она поселила их бесплатно у себя в доме, а сама перебралась во флигель. Всю душу отдала она мальчику, ведь своих детей у нее не было. Такова история простой, но очень доброй женщины.
