Сцена должна быть как возможно более глубокой. Ha заднем плане — широкий зелёный холм. За холмом — гладкий, матовый, синий, достаточно глубокого тона занавес. Вскоре начинается музыка, вначале в высокой тональности, непосредственно и быстро переходящей в более низкую. В то же самое время задник становится тёмно-синим (одновременно с музыкой) и получает широкое чёрное обрамление. Из-за сцены доносится пение без слов («А-е-у-о-е-у-о-а-и-о-а-е-о-а-е-и»), звучащее бесстрастно, деревянно и механически. По окончании пения всеобщая пауза — никакого движения, никакого звука. Затем темнота.
Позже эта же самая сцена освещается. Справа налево выходят пять возможно большего роста великанов (это как парение непосредственно над землёй). Они остаются в глубине один за другим — кто подняв, кто низко опустив плечи. Их удивительные жёлтые лица едва различимы. Они очень медленно поворачивают друг к другу головы и производят простые движения руками. Музыка приобретает определённость.
Вскоре раздается пение без слов великанов (пианиссимо), и они очень медленно приближаются к рампе. Слева направо быстро пролетает неопределённых очертаний красное существо, несколько напоминающее птицу, с большой головой, отдалённо похожей на человеческую. Великаны продолжают петь всё тише. Одновременно они утрачивают и чёткость очертаний.
На заднем плане медленно вырастает холм, становящийся всё светлее. Небо становится совершенно чёрным. Из-за сцены доносится всё тот же деревянный хор. Пения великанов больше не слышно. Авансцена становится всё синее и всё более непросматриваемой. Ансамбль борется с хором и побеждает его. Плотный синий туман делает всю сцену непросматриваемой.

Soon, the giants chant without words (pianissimo), and they very slowly approach the ramp. From left to right, a red creature, somewhat reminiscent of a bird, with a large head, vaguely similar to a human, flies quickly past of indefinite outlines. The giants continue to sing more and more quietly. At the same time, they also lose their clarity of outlines.
In the background, a hill slowly grows, becoming brighter. The sky turns completely black. The same wooden choir is heard from behind the stage. The singing of the giants is no longer heard. The proscenium becomes more and more blue and more and more obscure. The ensemble fights the choir and defeats it. The dense blue fog makes the entire scene obscure.
