Песня быстро стала популярной среди добровольцев, сражавшихся в Абхазии и Южной Осетии. После смерти Александра (застрелен чеченцем, укравшим его автомат) чеченский певец Имам Алимсултанов дописал четвертый куплет к песне и спел ее.
The words of this song (with the exception of the fourth verse) were written by the prominent Cossack poet Alexander Bardodym. The song quickly became popular among volunteers fighting in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. After the death of Alexander (shot by a Chechen who stole his machine gun), the Chechen singer Imam Alimsultanov added the fourth verse to the song and sang it.
